Yes!Star, a Chinese company making new films for Fujifilm, announced a new simple, reusable point-and-shoot film camera.
Yes!Star is a company that has produced medical film in China for some time. Recently, the company started producing new Fujifilm C200 and C400 colour-negative films, but it also announced a new film camera.
The camera is a simple point-and-shoot model with a fixed-focus 31mm F11 lens, a simple tunnel viewfinder and a flash. Apparently, it has a metal body and is built better than many plastic cameras currently available. Its weight, 280g, should confirm that.
Fixed-focus lens and a narrow aperture position this camera strictly as a casual, daylight and nice weather camera, despite the flash. It is not entirely clear whether this is a full-frame or a half-frame camera like Pentax 17 — 31mm lens is not enough of an indicator since that focal length would equate to a 45mm-equivalent full-frame field-of-view if it’s a half-frame design.
Nonetheless, and despite the limitations, more options are always welcome, especially if its price stays competitively affordable.
August update
After the announcement in July when the camera was featured in the news all over the Internet, it has practically vanished and all search results point to the news and nothing beyond that. It remains to be seen if it resurfaces again.
