Canon EF-M mount lenses

The EF-M mount is a lens mount designed in 2012 by Canon for digital mirrorless cameras with APS-C sensors. It is a bayonet mount with three lugs, made exclusively for the APS-C format (1.6× crop factor), with a focal flange distance of 18mm and a throat diameter of 47mm. EF‍-‍M mount inherited EF-mount digital-only communication, there are no mechanical linkages between lens and camera, and it is fully compatible with EF and EF‍-‍S mount variants, meaning simple adapters with pass-through connections are sufficient to retain all adapted lens functions.

EF-M lenses cannot be used on RF-S cameras due to a shorter focal flange distance.

Note: this reference currently counts only autofocus lenses.

Canon EF-M system was discontinued in October 2023.

Adapters

Canon offered the official Mount Adapter EF-EOS M that allowed the use of EF and EF-S mount lenses on EF-M mount cameras. It retains full control of lens features like autofocus, aperture and image stabilisation and behaves like a native EF-S camera regarding the crop factor. Some third-party manufacturers, notably Viltrox, produced two different adapters — the standard one, Mount Adapter EF-EOS M, functionally identical to the genuine Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS M; and Mount Adapter EF-M2 with the same electronic compatibility but functionally similar to a native EF mount camera — a “full frame” model. Its telecompressor (“speed booster”) optics reduces APS-C crop factor by 0.71×, reducing it to effectively 1.136× instead of the standard 1.6×.
